An injury to England‘s Gabriel Langton occurred during his team’s silver medal performance in the men’s team gymnastics final at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow. The incident took place during the final rotation of the evening at The Arena.
The City of Birmingham Gymnastics Club athlete required medical attention on the mat after a fall from the horizontal metal bar. He missed his catch, falling head first, which led to a delay in the competition as medical staff attended to him.
Langton was eventually moved onto a stretcher with his head and neck braced before being led away on a trolley. He was conscious and moving his legs and arms before leaving the arena floor, and team officials later confirmed he was moving and speaking to doctors.
Team England released a statement expressing gratitude to the medical teams for their immediate assistance. Langton was transported to a hospital, with further information to be shared as it becomes available.
Langton had been a late addition to Team England, stepping in for the injured Max Whitlock. He was unable to join his teammates on the podium to receive their silver medals.
When the competition resumed, England‘s team-mates were unable to overcome the deficit against Canada, who secured their first gold medal in the event in 20 years. Canada had previously finished second to England in the past two games.
Luke Whitehouse, an England team-mate, was the first to perform on the apparatus after the restart, posting a score of 11.700. He commented on the need to refocus after such an incident, stating that gymnastics is a dangerous sport and that such events serve as a reminder of its risks.
Felix Dolci, who contributed to Canada‘s gold medal win and led qualifying for the all-around competition, acknowledged the difficult nature of gymnastics. He extended thoughts to Langton and the England team, commending their focus despite the challenging circumstances.
Hamish Carter from Team Scotland, whose team narrowly missed out on a bronze medal to Australia, expressed relief that Langton was alright, noting the potential dangers of the sport.

In other Commonwealth Games news, Duncan Scott secured a gold medal for Scotland in the men’s 200m individual medley at the Tollcross International Swimming Centre in Glasgow.
Scott, who trains with England‘s Tom Dean in Stirling, competed against Dean in the final. Scott finished with a time of 1:56.38, nearly half a second faster than his previous Games record set four years prior.
Dean, who had been dealing with an injury, earned a bronze medal in the same event. He acknowledged Scott’s strong performance, noting their shared training background.
Scott’s victory marks his 14th Commonwealth Games medal across his fourth Games appearance. He expressed satisfaction with his performance, describing it as a relief and well-executed.
The 29-year-old swimmer mentioned feeling a sense of expectation for this event, particularly as it was the first day of competition and he aimed to provide a positive start for Team Scotland and generate momentum for the crowd and team throughout the week.
Scott’s backstroke and breaststroke segments were particularly strong, allowing him to establish a clear lead. He maintained this advantage through the freestyle leg to secure the gold medal.
Evan Jones of Scotland initially challenged Scott in the butterfly leg. However, Scott’s subsequent performance ensured he was not caught by competitors like Dean and New Zealand‘s Lewis Clareburt, who took silver.
Scott, who won his first Commonwealth Games medal in the same building 12 years ago, will have a break from competition before continuing his schedule. His performance has set a positive tone for Glasgow 2026.

Adam Ramsay-Peaty advanced to the final of the 100m breaststroke after winning his semi-final. He finished in 59.19, holding off a challenge from Jersey‘s Filip Nowacki.
Nowacki, an 18-year-old, expressed confidence in his ability to compete in the final against Ramsay-Peaty, citing his training progress.
