Manchester United are reportedly assessing various midfield options as the summer transfer window progresses. The club has already made several signings, including Karl Darlow, Andrey Santos, Youri Tielemans, and Tynan Thompson.
Despite these additions, there is interest in securing a third midfielder. Among the names linked are Aurelien Tchouameni, Manu Kone, and Alex Scott. Reports also suggest the club is looking for another left-back to provide competition for Luke Shaw.
Midfield Reinforcements
United’s search for a defensive midfielder continues, with Real Madrid‘s Aurelien Tchouameni emerging as a target. The France international has been with Real Madrid for four years, making 195 appearances and winning major trophies including the Champions League and La Liga. While earlier reports indicated a new contract agreement for Tchouameni at Real Madrid, some sources suggest Real are willing to sell him if their valuation is met. However, transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has stated that Tchouameni has already signed a new contract with Real Madrid and is considered an important player by Jose Mourinho, suggesting he is likely to remain at the club.
Another midfield target is Manu Kone from AS Roma, who is considered a more realistic option. United reportedly had conversations with the agents of Eduardo Camavinga to understand his situation, but Camavinga is said to be keen on staying at Real Madrid to work under Jose Mourinho.
Carlos Baleba is also among the players being considered for a midfield role. United have reportedly shown renewed interest in the Brighton player, though direct contact with Brighton has not yet been made. A compromise on the price would be necessary for any potential move.
Regarding Warren Zaïre-Emery, Paris Saint-Germain are reportedly unwilling to sell the midfielder, aiming to keep their midfield core intact. PSG are not expected to accept bids for their key midfielders, including Zaïre-Emery, whose current deal runs until 2029.
Other Transfer Activity
United have made an enquiry for Crystal Palace winger Ismaila Sarr. The Senegal international is admired at Old Trafford, though he is not considered the club’s top priority target. Sarr had a strong season last term and also performed well during the World Cup with Senegal.
In terms of outgoings, the future of Marcus Rashford remains a topic of discussion. He is expected to rejoin the United squad after his post-World Cup break. Reports indicate that United are looking for permanent buyers for Rashford, with Bayern Munich and Tottenham Hotspur among the clubs linked. The club is reportedly keen to manage his salary to maintain their wage structure. Without a permanent deal in sight, a loan move towards the end of the window could be considered.
Alejandro Garnacho has moved to Aston Villa, initially on loan for the season. If certain conditions are met, Villa will be required to sign him permanently. United are set to benefit from this deal due to a buyout clause inserted when he was sold to Chelsea.
United are also reportedly in a transfer race with Chelsea for Fenerbahce‘s Archie Brown. Both clubs are said to be following the English left-back. Fenerbahce is reportedly seeking a sell-on clause in any deal for Brown.
In academy news, Manchester City have completed the signing of Elliot Anderson from Nottingham Forest for a fee of £116 million. Anderson moved to the Etihad Stadium on a five-year deal until 2031. United had shown interest in Anderson but ultimately signed Andrey Santos and Youri Tielemans instead.
United are also negotiating compensation fees with City and Liverpool for youngsters David Eze, Karim Cassim, and Isaac Konde. The plan is for these players to initially join the club’s Under-18s squad.
The club’s focus remains on strengthening the squad ahead of the upcoming Premier League season.
Michael Carrick, the manager, is looking to shape his squad, with the Premier League season less than a month away.
