Everton secures new front-of-shirt sponsor as Stake moves to sleeve

New Sponsorship Deals for Everton
Everton has announced CMC Markets as its new front-of-shirt sponsor, with the partnership set to coincide with the launch of the club’s new home kit. This development addresses a concern among supporters regarding the club’s previous front-of-shirt sponsor. The new agreement with CMC Markets means the trading platform will feature on the shirts for the men’s, women’s, and Under-21s teams.
The change comes as Premier League rules now prevent gambling companies from appearing on the front of club shirts. Despite this, Stake, the previous front-of-shirt sponsor, will continue its association with Everton by moving to the sleeve for the 2026-27 season under a new multi-year agreement. This arrangement is permitted under current regulations.
According to reports, the combined revenue from the deals with CMC Markets and Stake is expected to provide Everton with approximately £25 million annually. This financial boost is significant for the club, particularly in the context of the new Salary Cost Ratio (SCR) system, which replaces the previous Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR).
Impact of Financial Regulations and Sponsorship
The introduction of the new SCR system will change how clubs manage their finances. Under SCR, clubs will be assessed based on their spending on player-related costs relative to their football-related revenue and profits or losses from player sales. Premier League teams will be allowed to spend 85 per cent of their revenue on their squad.
Breaches of these financial parameters will result in penalties, though points deductions will only apply if clubs exceed a threshold of 115 per cent. Financial penalties will be imposed for breaches between 85 and 115 per cent. The increased revenue from the new sponsorship deals is seen as beneficial, as it could allow for more investment in the squad.
The club’s decision to partner with Stake in November 2022 occurred during a period when Everton was experiencing financial challenges. Critics at the time viewed the deal as a move to secure available funds. The club’s current leadership, including the Friedkin Group, has expressed intentions to rebuild Everton‘s identity, with Andrew Middleton describing CMC Markets as a brand that aligns with the club’s ambitions and values.
Fan Reaction and Ongoing Concerns
The move of Stake to the sleeve, while prompted by Premier League regulations, has not fully resolved concerns for some supporters. Many had hoped for a complete disassociation from the gambling operator. The club faced criticism when the 2025-26 kit was launched due to the presence of the Stake logo, leading to calls for sponsorless shirts to be made available.
Issues surrounding Stake‘s operations have been a point of contention. In February 2025, the Gambling Commission initiated an investigation into a Stake-branded advertisement. This led to Stake relinquishing its UK gambling licence. The Gambling Commission subsequently warned Everton about ensuring fans could not access an unlicensed gambling site through the club’s branding.
The Coalition to End Gambling Ads also raised allegations that Stake remained accessible to UK users via a VPN, even after the licence was given up. Despite these concerns, Everton maintained the logo on the shirt. The shift of Stake to the sleeve is a direct result of the Premier League‘s front-of-shirt gambling ban, rather than a voluntary decision by the club to end the partnership.
Other top-flight clubs affected by the ban have similarly retained their gambling partners in some capacity, often on sleeves. While CMC Markets represents a new front-of-shirt sponsor, the continued presence of Stake on the sleeve means the underlying relationship, along with its associated history and allegations, persists for the 2026-27 season.

What the Future Holds
The financial injection from the new sponsorship deals is expected to provide Everton with more flexibility under the new SCR system. This could allow for increased spending on player acquisitions and squad improvements. The club’s financial health has been a significant topic, with previous seasons seeing points deductions due to non-compliance with financial parameters.
The new SCR model aims to provide a clearer framework for financial management, focusing on player-related costs against football-related revenue and player sales. This change in regulations, combined with the new sponsorship income, is anticipated to offer more opportunities for the club to strengthen its position on and off the field. The new CMC Markets sponsorship is timed to launch alongside Thursday’s new Everton home kit.
