FC Barcelona has reportedly initiated discussions regarding a potential transfer for Bayern Munich striker Harry Kane, according to reports. The England international’s representatives have been contacted by the Catalan club to explore the possibility of him joining next season. This move comes as Kane is currently focused on England’s progression through the knockout stages of the 2026 World Cup in North America.
Kane, who is 32, has been a key player for England, scoring three goals during the group stage of the World Cup. This included a brace in a 4-2 victory against Croatia and a goal against Panama. His national team is set to face DR Congo in the last 32 of the tournament.
Barcelona’s Interest and Contract Situation
FC Barcelona‘s interest in Kane is seen as a potential replication of their successful acquisition of Robert Lewandowski in 2022. Lewandowski, who was nearing his 34th birthday at the time, was signed for $57 million (€50 million) and went on to lift three La Liga titles, scoring 120 goals in 193 appearances before his departure as a free agent on June 30. Kane, described as a model professional still at the peak of his powers, is seen as a player who could have a similar impact at the Spotify Camp Nou under Hansi Flick.
Despite the reported contact, FC Barcelona has not yet submitted a firm offer to either Kane’s representatives or Bayern Munich. Previous inquiries indicated that Kane was content in Bavaria, even though his contract is set to expire in 2027. This means that, similar to Vinicius Jr. at Real Madrid, Kane will enter the final 12 months of his contract with Bayern this week, making him eligible to leave as a free agent next summer.
While Kane is reportedly keen to extend his contract until 2030, Bayern is said to prefer an extension of only two additional years. This situation could allow Barcelona to capitalise and potentially secure Kane for a reduced fee, rather than Bayern losing him for free in 2027.
Impact on Bayern and Other Transfer Rumours
Bayern Munich remains optimistic about Kane’s long-term stay, with his camp reportedly open to a new deal. Formal discussions regarding a contract extension are anticipated to take place after the conclusion of the 2026 World Cup. Kane is considered a cornerstone of Bayern‘s attack.
In other transfer news, Julian Alvarez has reportedly agreed to a five-year deal with FC Barcelona, but his reported price tag of around $175 million, influenced by a Real Madrid bid, is a significant obstacle. Meanwhile, Leon Goretzka is expected to leave Bayern this summer, with talks with AC Milan paused and Chicago Fire showing interest. Alexander Nübel has also expressed a desire to join Beşiktaş, with talks between the clubs underway. Bryan Zaragoza, despite having a deal until 2029, is planned to be sold by Bayern, with his salary being a hurdle for clubs like Espanyol.
Nicolas Jackson, who was on loan at Bayern as Kane’s backup and is set to return to Chelsea, could be a target for AC Milan if deemed surplus to requirements. Former Bayern goalkeeper Yann Sommer, now a free agent, is in discussions with Club Brugge. Additionally, Christian Falk has stated that Bayern is not monitoring Tottenham‘s Lucas Bergvall, who is seeking more playing time.
